Almudena Garcia-Parrado

25 years of finding stories other people miss.

I'm Almudena Garcia-Parrado. I've spent 25 years as a BBC documentary director - filming, producing and directing in some of the highest risk and most remote environments in the world.

Whether it's working with local people who open their hearts to me or high profile talent like Stacey Dooley, my films have been watched by millions of people around the world, broadcast in dozens of countries, screened by organisations that used them to change policy and save lives, and nominated for Royal Television Society awards.

Through all that experience I've learnt exactly what makes someone watch something to the very last second - and not look away.

Here's what makes this course different

Most filmmaking courses focus on one of two things:

Either chasing attention online - viral tricks, trending audio, fast-cut edits and polished-looking videos with no real story underneath them.

Or traditional film school - expensive equipment, technical jargon and intimidating theory that makes most people give up before they've filmed a single frame.

This course is neither.

For 25 years I worked inside the world of BBC documentaries, where the real skill was never expensive cameras or internet tricks. It was learning how to notice story, emotion and beauty in ordinary life.

I've rebuilt everything I learned there for your phone and the passions already surrounding you.

In this course you won't just learn how to film. You'll learn to recognise a story before you press record, capture emotion in the moment, build cinematic sequences from whatever you have around you, and edit films that people genuinely stay with from the first second to the last.

And you'll do it using the life you already have. Your dog. Your neighbourhood. Your family. Your traditions. The things you love.

That's what this course is really about. Learn By Watching. Then By Doing.

For each big theme - storytelling, filming, editing - I've already made a real five-minute film about something I'm genuinely passionate about. Made especially for this course.

You watch it first, all the way through, the way an audience would.

Then I use these real films to teach you hands-on - not just what I did, but how you can do it too.

My actual thinking, every step of the way. Like having a big sister pull up a chair, show you exactly what she did - and then make sure you can do it too.
